Benoît Mariage had his breakthrough directing numerous episodes of the famous Belgian show: “Strip-Tease”, a documentary series dealing mainly with common people and moments of their everyday life.
Yearning to translate this experience from documentary to fiction, he directed his first short LE SIGNALEUR / THE SIGNALMAN which was awarded in 1997 at the International Critic’s Week in Cannes.
Two years later, his first feature LES CONVOYEURS ATTENDENT / THE CARRIERS ARE WAITING was screened at Cannes Director’s Fortnight. Starring the young Benoît Poelvoorde, this bittersweet film was nominated at the French Academy of César and sold worldwide.
His next film L’AUTRE / THE MISSIGN HALF was screened at the Sundance festival. He reunited with Benoit Poelvoorde who meanwhile became an A list French actor for COWBOY (2OO7) his third film.
His next film LES RAYURES DU ZEBRE / SCOUTING FOR ZEBRAS produced by Boucan Films was a popular success, becoming the number one Belgian French-speaking film of 2014. He then teamed up with the irreverent François Damiens and co-wrote MON KET / DANY Benoît Mariage is currently working on HABIB, starring Catherine Deneuve.
